Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.

An anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. You can view the Gravatar privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible next to your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, please avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Other visitors can download and extract location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you do not need to re-enter your details each time you comment. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie will check if your browser accepts cookies. This contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will set cookies to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login active for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.

If you edit or publish an article, another cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie holds no personal data. It simply stores the post ID of the article you edited and expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or articles. Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited those sites directly.

These external sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with their content, especially if you are logged into an account on their site.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security purposes.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are stored indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognise and approve follow-up comments instead of holding them for moderation.

If you register for an account (where applicable), we store the personal information you provide in your user profile. You can view, edit, or delete your personal information at any time, except your username. Website administrators can also view and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
